When I was looking for an agency to provide personal care for my Dad, I called almost all the agencies listed in the Edmonton Senior Directory (Sage). I also called the ones a social worker recommended. I was feeling a bit discouraged by the time I called Susie's company, Havencrest. By the end of my conversation with Susie, I perked right up! Not only does her agency meet my three criteria (flexibility, hands-on care and within budget) but I sensed in her a genuine and compassionate person. While I was excited, I reminded myself to wait and see.

Well, going into our six month experience with Susie and her staff, my Dad and I are very happy! Initially, we only needed six hours per week of help and Susie was agreeable. That's one aspect of flexibility because not many agencies I spoke to were willing to work with that. Then Covid-19 happened and I needed to make changes to my Dad's care schedule. Again, Susie and her staff were flexible. I often have to make such schedule changes a few times due to my Dad's changing needs. I have found that Susie and her staff are very understanding, accommodating and just genuinely caring people. They're like good neighbours who care about their neighbours and want to help out. Lastly, because Susie has on-going communication with her staff and clients, any issue that arises gets quickly resolved.

In summary, we're satisfied with Havencrest and would highly rrecommend their service!

Susie Sterenberg worked as a professional caregiver to Dr. Roland Haryett for the past 5 years, up to and including his death; she was with him when he passed. He would not have lives for as long as he did if he had not had Susie. She had become closer to him than anyone else and his passing is of personal grief to her. Dr. Haryett was an incredibly special friend to my father and since my father's death many years ago, I have considered Dr. Haryett as a surrogate father. Susie, however, was the one who truly was his daughter. From the beginning of their relationship they connected. Susie kept him entertained and laughing and they had their little private jokes. She was always two steps ahead of him and attended to his every need. Whatever he requested of her she alreadt had it attended to or was at the ready with anything he might need. She took kind and loving care of him in all ways possible, attending to cooking, cleaning, arranging and taking him to appointments, making sure he got his exercise; walking, swimming and using the exercise equipment; doing his banking and paying bills; organizing his days; teaching him to expand the use of his computer and; later on in the final months of his life, dressing, changing, and feeding him and even sleeping in a chair at his bedside in the hospital.

Susie has been exceptional and dedicated in all aspects of care giving. Anyone dependant on another would be blessed to have her and her company Havencrest Home Care looking after their loved ones.
